The Northern Rhône has become home to some of the most expensive and hunted wines in France. But you don’t need Jamet, Chave or Allemand to understand why this little stretch of river is so compelling.

This Friday we’re pouring six wines from two decidedly under-the-radar family domaines: Roland Grangier in Chavanay and Domaine du Murinais in Crozes-Hermitage. Grangier started his domaine with just 1.5 hectares in 2002 and now makes wine across Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and Côte-Rôtie; Murinais is an old Crozes family property that began estate bottling under Luc Tardy in 1998.

We’ll start with two whites, then follow Syrah up the ladder from a simple regional bottling through Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Côte-Rôtie. Six delicious, honest wines that show what the Northern Rhône actually tastes like without leaning on its star names.
